Different Types of Portland Cement

Portland Cement
Portland Cement

Cement is one of the essential components of construction materials. There are different types of cement in the market. The user needs to know what ingredients are in the cement. Portland Cement is a bonding material in concrete, mortar or spice, plaster, etc. Cement connects sand and clay for various purposes. Choosing the right kind of Portland cement will ensure long-lasting strength in the installation. Therefore, useful cement required for good construction work. Proper construction requires helpful cement. Different types of Portland cement used according to usage and type of work.

What should be checked before buying Portland cement?

Knowing the quality of concrete, one should buy cement from an authorized vendor. Maybe, in that case, the cost will be a little higher, but it is wise to spend a little more money now than to spend more money on the future repair. We can change the color of the house if you don’t like the fittings. But We cannot change the cement in the original installation. So be careful. Cement is an essential element of the construction work, which holds the whole house.

Good quality Different types of Portland cement:

⇒Long-lasting energy and sustainable construction.
⇒Minimal cost to repair and maintain.
⇒Preventing cracks caused by heat variations.
⇒Prevent the onslaught of harmful chemicals present in the soil, water, and air.
⇒Protect the iron from rust.
⇒Is less compressed
⇒A beautiful and luxurious finish
⇒The concrete mix requires less water
⇒Friendly in the surroundings
⇒Suitable for earthquake resistant designs
⇒Prevent harmful chemical reactions

Cement Verification –

Suppose the quality of your cement is in doubt, your apprehension is worse on cement. Then what will you do? If you want to be sure, take the following tests. Take a little cement, make a block in the form of 50/20 milliliters of cement with 25-30% water. The next morning when the cement is frozen, with a finger press, if you do not break the blocks, it means useful cement.

Different types of Portland cement are-

About 98% of the cement made from intermediate products, i.e. clinker. Clinker contains about eighty-eight percent lime, and also contains various proportions of sand, iron, aluminum, etc. Four types of cement. They are.

1. Common Portland Cement
2. Portland ignition or fly ash cement
3. Blast furnace slag cement
4. White cement

Clinker and gypsum ratio in cement:

The cement, gypsum adds so that the cement delay in solidifying and there is sufficient time to work. If the clinker is high in alumina, the cement will solidify quickly. The amount of cement gypsum depends on the amount of C3A (Tri Calcium Aluminate) and the amount of alkaline material. The typical Portland cement clinker is> = 97% and gypsum = <03%. The amount of gypsum in other types of cement is = <03%, but the amount of clinker is in different proportions.

When the amount of gypsum is high, the volume of the cement pest increases and the bond disrupted. The initial coagulation time of the cement is at least 45 minutes. Maximum cement freezing time is a maximum of 10 hours.

Different types of Portland cement that are most commonly used are the following, briefly described below:

1. General Portland Cement

From the very beginning of the history of cement, one type of cement has been going thru. Until recently, this type of cement used for all construction works.

Clinker> = 97% and gypsum = <03%

ASTM (American Society for Testing and Materials): C 150-02
EN (European Norm): 197-1:2000 CEMI

Uses: –

This cement uses for all kinds of work. Cement uses in our country, according to the type of work. Generally, Portland cement is no longer use for heavy construction. Because this cement mixes with water, it produces a lot of heat, which is detrimental to heavy construction. But this cement is very useful for medium-sized construction.

2. Portland blaze or fly ash cement

Clinker is the main material of cement, and limestone is the main material of this clinker. Limestone reacts with water to generate a lot of heat, which is heavy and damaging to a large volume of construction work. When the heat is high, after installation, fine cracks occur in the hair, known as hard crack. The cement clinker use to reduce the amount of clinker in its place as a by-product of coal-fired power plants. This burning coal is known as fly ash. This type of cement, fly ash uses as a substitute for particulate clinker of fly ash, so this cement called Portland ignition or fly ash cement.

Special Features: –

Fly ash cement produces very little heat during welding, thereby reducing the tendency of hair crack after welding. Also, this type of cement provides more strength than ordinary Portland cement. However, its primary energy consumption rate is lower than that of standard Portland cement.

Clinker = 84-86%, fly ash = 11-13% and gypsum = <03%

ASTM (American Society for Testing and Materials): Type IP 595-02

Uses: –

Heavy construction work where lots of cement use together, and there is a possibility of generating a lot of heat. Saltwater in climatic conditions, in soil work, underwater, or in water-based installations.

3. Blast Furnace Slug Cement

At present, the cement clinker ratio, reduced by replacing different types of homogeneous material. One such synonym is the slug. Slugs are a by-product of steel production. This blast furnace slug cement and functionality are similar to OPC cement, but it produces less heat, and in salt weather, this cement is more effective than ordinary Portland cement. Protects the cement from attacking the sulfur in the air. Although it has a lower rate of energy gain than initially Portland cement, slag cement is about one and a half times more potent than OPC cement.

Clinker = 70-75%, Blast Furnace Slug = 20-25% and Gypsum = <05%

ASTM (American Society for Testing and Materials): E 595-02

Use as like as Portland ignition or fly ash cement.

4. White cement

This type of cement used only for beauty enhancement. Clinker is the main ingredient of this cement, but the clinker is much more refined than an ordinary clinker. As a result, its price is three times higher than ordinary cement.

ASTM (American Society for Testing and Materials): C 150-92

In the work of mosaics and on the outside walls. For the following matters, cement is more useful than lime and in producing excellent wet and underwater construction work. Where there is a need for stability and more energy in the construction work, the mortar or plaster needs to freeze quickly.

Storing cement: –

The cement placed in the air space where the tariff not ventilated. The wall cannot be kept in contact with the water. Bags should be kept in step. Sprinkle wood powder (husk) below the storage area and place the wood bottom on it and place the cement. Remember that water is the biggest enemy of cement. Therefore, be careful not to rush the walls or floors or sunshades.
